Knit two stitches, knit the next two stitches together through the back loops. Then slip the three stitches on your right needle back onto your left needle.
Repeat the previous step until you have 6 stitches remaining, with three on your left needle and three on your right needle.
Pinch the bottom of the stitches on your left needle, then slide out your left needle and rotate it so the needle tip is pointing to the left and insert it back into those three stitches - now in the opposite direction.
Bring your two needles together so they're pointing in the same direction and the purl bumps are facing each other.
Break your yarn leaving a long tail to use for Kitchener stitch to graft the remaining 6 stitches together. Thread the yarn onto a tapestry needle.
To setup for Kitchener stitch, using your tapestry needle go into the first stitch on the front needle as if to purl and bring the yarn all the way through, then go into the first stitch on the back needle as if to knit and bring your yarn all the way through.
Insert your needle into the first stitch on the front needle as if to knit, slide this stitch off your knitting needle, then bring your yarn all the way through this stitch. Insert your needle into the next stitch on the front needle as if to purl, bring your yarn all the way through, but keep this stitch on the knitting needle.
Insert your needle into the first stitch on the back needle as if to purl, slide this stitch off your knitting needle, then bring your yarn all the way through this stitch. Insert your needle into the next stitch on the back needle as if to knit, bring your yarn all the way through, but keep this stitch on the knitting needle.
Repeat steps seven and eight once more, you should then have two stitches remaining.
Insert your needle into the stitch on the front needle as if to knit, then insert your needle into the stitch on the back needle as if to purl, bring your yarn all the way through these stitches and remove your knitting needles from the stitches.
