Pivot Mitts
With delicate cables framed by seed stitch, the Pivot Mitts are a winter wardrobe staple. Featuring a surprisingly easy to knit stitch pattern, these mitts can be a perfect introduction to knitting cables.
Sizing
Sizes: 1 (2, 3)
Finished hand circumference: 7 (8, 9)” / 18 (20.5, 23) cm
To measure the circumference of your hand measure your palm horizontally just below your knuckles (at the widest part of your hand), keeping your fingers relaxed.
These mitts are designed to be worn with up to 0.5” / 1.3 cm of positive or negative ease.
The sample mitts are shown in size 1 on 6.5” / 16.5 cm circumference hands.
Yarn
Fingering weight yarn
37 (46, 58) grams
172 (213, 269) yards
157 (195, 246) metres
I recommend using a smooth yarn which has at least 3 plies for clearly defined cables. When knitting mitts I like to use yarn which is suitable for socks as this ensures it’s more hardwearing.
Suggested Yarn
1 skein of Needle & Fred 4ply fingering weight, colour ‘Mint to Be’ (75% Bluefaced Leicester, 25% Nylon) - 100 grams / 464 yards / 425 metres per skein.
Needles
2.25mm - 9” / 23 cm circular, or your preferred needle type for small circumference knitting (use the needle size needed to achieve gauge).
