Beehive Yarns 2020 Advent Calendar

For December 2020 I purchased two advent calendars, one of these was from Beehive Yarns.

Beehive Yarns' 2020 advent calendar followed a 'Festive Fairytale' theme, inspired by classic fairytales and folk tales. Beehive Yarns is one of my favourite yarn brands and is actually the first brand I ever made a purchase from at a yarn festival. I'd never had a yarn advent calendar before, but knew I wanted to purchase at least one for advent 2020. When I saw Beehive Yarns' 'Festive Fairytale' theme I knew I'd really enjoy it so purchased it as soon as it was available. I opted for the 4ply version, there was also a DK version.

The calendar was presented in a purple box, with gold foil lettering and a magnetic closure. The calendar consisted of 24 white patterned paper bags, each sealed with numbered stickers for each day. Each bag contained a 20 gram mini skein of yarn, with some days including extra treats too.

Every colour-way included in the calendar was completely new and they were ordered in a lovely fade. I think I'll be keeping them in the order they were opened as I really like how it looks, although I'm sure they could be easily re-ordered if that would better suit some projects.

I was trying to think of projects which would work well for using all of the mini skeins together as a fade and I'm currently thinking I might use them for a So Faded sweater by Andrea Mowry. It's a pattern I've been thinking of knitting for a while and just needed to get suitable yarn for it. I'm slightly concerned that it could end up looking a bit too stripy due to the number and range of colours, so I might end up choosing a different project. If I decide to knit the So Faded I'm intending to use lifelines, so I can re-do any sections as needed.

Beehive Yarns' advent calendar was a pleasure to open every day, with beautiful colour-ways as well as fun extras, such as hot chocolate and candy cane. I would definitely recommend it and really hope to purchase a 2021 version next advent.
