Crocheting Nesting Baskets
Back in 2019 I watched a video about making crochet nesting baskets by Bella Coco Crochet and finally decided to follow it and make myself a set of nesting baskets.
I've been wanting to try crocheting baskets for a while, I know I'd eventually like to crochet some large baskets to use for storage around my house, but wanted to start off small. I'd previously watched a tutorial on these Lily Sugar'n Cream Nesting Baskets by Bella Coco Crochet and thought they'd be ideal for storing stationery in my home office. I purchased the required yarn and decided to give them a go.
I did have an issue when initially getting set up to start crocheting, you need to remove the cone from the centre of the yarn to access both of the ends to hold together and I found it quite difficult to remove. I had to hammer the narrow end of the cone to push it out of the centre of the yarn.
I decided to start with the largest basket as I knew that would take the longest to complete. I'm not the quickest at crochet but managed to get it done within a day. I had no issues understanding the pattern and found the Bella Coco Crochet video very helpful for checking if I was following the pattern correctly, as well as to see how to crochet the crab stitch edging which I hadn't done before.
Over the following months I worked on the other two baskets when I had time to spare. They all follow roughly the same pattern, you essentially just stop working on the base at different points.
I'm very happy with the finished baskets, I think they turned out well and will work perfectly for storing stationery as I'd planned. I think you can definitely see the largest basket was my first attempt as the edge looks messier, but it's good to see that I improved with practise. I still have quite a bit of the yarn spare so I might make some more of these baskets. I'm considering making a shallower one, for storing things like erasers and pencil sharpeners.
I would definitely recommend trying these out if you're wanting to crochet some baskets, they're quick and easy to make and very useful.
