Beginning Knitting a Honey Cowl
In November I started working on a Honey Cowl using some of the yarn I'd purchased at Yarndale.
The Honey Cowl is a pattern by Antonia Shankland, it's free and available on Ravelry. It's a simple slip stitch pattern and has two length options. I chose to knit the shorter version which requires a single skein of DK yarn. I would definitely describe this as a beginner friendly pattern, it's knit in the round and consists of a 4 row stitch pattern which is repeated until the cowl is the correct length.
When I attended Yarndale 2019, my shopping list did include getting yarn for this pattern in particular. The yarn I chose was 'Take the A Train' from Beehive Yarns, which is 100% Superwash Extra Fine Merino DK. I thought this would be ideal for the Honey Cowl pattern as it would really show off all of the colours in the yarn.
Back in November I went on holiday for a week and the week prior to that I had decided I wanted to cast on this cowl. Obviously as I had decided this in advance you would think I'd have wound the yarn before my holiday and had it ready to just throw into my bag, but I was not that organised. At 10pm the night before we were leaving I had just finished packing and ended up stood in my dining room winding this yarn. I managed to knit the first few rows before going to sleep, but that's how this project nearly ended up not being started.
I ended up knitting quite a lot of it when I was on holiday and have been slowly working on it in between other projects since then. It is now nearly complete with only a few more inches to go. Next time you see this cowl on my blog I should be showing you the completed project!
