Knitting a Montana Mountain Cowl
The Montana Mountain Cowl is a möbius cowl pattern designed by Andrea Mowry. It uses two colours and the mosaic knitting method for the colourwork.
This was one of the last projects I had left to knit with the yarn I'd purchased at Yarndale 2019. I'd purchased two skeins of sock yarn from Beehive Yarns, one in the colour Fox Tales and one in the colour Tapestry, as I thought they'd work well together for this cowl. I've actually used the colour Tapestry for a project before, you may recognise it from my Free Your Fade shawl.
I decided not to knit a gauge swatch for this project as I knew getting the correct size wasn't absolutely essential and I had plenty of yarn, so I was unlikely to run out.
To knit this cowl you repeat a portion of the pattern a number of times to create a long tube, which you then twist and sew together. I found the pattern very clear and easy to follow and had no issues with it.
I hadn't knit this style of cowl before, but I really like how once it's complete it doesn't have a wrong side, making it very easy to wear. I'm not sure if I'd knit another one just because I found it got a bit too repetitive. It's knit using sock yarn so takes quite a while and I didn't find it as exciting to work on as something like a shawl which gets noticeably bigger, rather than just longer.
Overall I'm very happy with the finished look of the cowl, the use of the mosaic method for the colourwork adds a lot of texture which I really like and I can see myself getting a lot of use out of this cowl.
