How to Cast On using the Backwards Loop Cast On

The Backwards Loop Cast On is an easy cast on, which is great for adding a few stitches to a row in areas such as at the underarm of a jumper.

1.

Grip the working yarn with the fingers of your left hand with your thumb up, and hold onto your needle with your right hand.

2.

Bring your thumb down the back of the working yarn and then towards the front, rotating your hand until your thumb is up, so you have a loop around your thumb.

3.

Insert your needle into the loop on your thumb, from the bottom upwards.

4.

Remove your thumb from the loop, and pull the working yarn to tighten the loop on your needle.
