How to Set Up the Tubular Bind Off

This tutorial demonstrates how to set up the Tubular Bind Off, which is then completed using Kitchener Stitch. This bind off creates a neat edge for 1x1 ribbing where the stitches appear to continue over the edge of the project.

1.

For the first setup row, knit one, then slip one purlwise with yarn in front. Repeat that until you reach the end of the row.

2.

For the second setup row, slip one purlwise with the yarn in the back, then purl one. Repeat that until you reach the end of the row.

3.

Now that the two setup rows are complete the stitches need to be split between the working needle and a spare needle which is either the same size or slightly smaller than the working needle. Hold the two needles together in your right hand with the spare needle behind the working needle.

4.

Slip all stitches purlwise, slipping the knit stitches onto the working needle and the purl stitches onto the spare needle, do this until you reach the end of the row.

5.

The setup for the Tubular Bind Off is now complete and can be finished using Kitchener Stitch.
